The 2016 Sport Season finally came to a close this past weekend with Nationals in Kennesaw, GA. So far, 2016 marks a new milestone and new standard for youth climbing in Tucson. An unprecedented 6 athletes were invited to the event (five made the trek), which is by far a new record for our team. For Brodie, Landon, Laurel, Davin, and Alex, it was their first experience with this level competition. That considering, I'm so proud of their performance. Out of their respective categories of approximately 50 competitors:
Brodie - 43rd
Landon - 46th
Laurel - 36th
Davin - 45th
Alex - 39th
Lets not forget about other accomplishments from this sport season, as it took a lot of hard work from our team to get this far. This year we had:
- 6 competitions
- 32 Regional Competitors
- 21 Divisional Qualifications
- 6 National Qualifications
- 21 podium finishes
TCP was proud to provide 10 scholarships for this year's sport season (7 for comps, 3 for Maple Canyon), ensuring those athletes experiences inside and out. This concludes TCP's first full season since it's conception. We set out as an organization to provide need-based scholarships to help athletes and their families bear the burden of expenses associated with climbing. We are proud to have had such a successful year and look forward to growth and more support for Tucson youth climbing!
