SCS Divisionals, 2015

Eight athletes from Team Rocks and Ropes brought down the hammer this past weekend in Salt Lake City for the SCS Divisional Championship. Held at the awesome Momentum Climbing Gym in Millcreek, the two day event challenged our young athletes and brought out their best performances of the season.

On Saturday two routes were set per category for the Qualification round, the first being slightly easier than the second, and competitors had 6 mins per to give them their best shot. Our athletes looked amazing as they confidently approached the hard routes.

Ruby, Eva, Dylan and Ben were the first out of ISO, and they needed to place in the top 10 in order to move on to the finals round the next day. Dylan BARELY missed it by 1 place, landing in 11th. Ruby, Eva and Ben all finished in 7th place, securing their spots for finals. Claire, Tanner, Davin and Jake were next up. Despite amazing attempts, Davin and Jake fell short for finals, but Tanner and Claire (both placing 5th) clinched their spots for the next day.

Sunday's final round consisted of only one route, so the pressure was on. Having one route to split up the field means that a competitor can expect it to be VERY hard. So far this was the strongest showing Rocks and Ropes had had at an SCS Divisional, so whatever happened next would be a bonus to me. What did happen next made Team history, with Tanner, Claire and Ben all qualifying for to compete at Nationals next month! We've never had three athletes compete at Nationals for Sport Climbing, I couldn't be more proud! Also, a congrats to our one and only speed competitor, Claire, placing 4th and earning at Nationals invite for that discipline as well.
